Town of Oneida secures grant for railroad depot revitalization

The Town of Oneida is excited to announce that it has been awarded a significant grant from the Tennessee Department of Tourism through the Tourism Enhancement Grant program. This funding will be used to rehabilitate the historic railroad depot building located in Oneida City Park, an important landmark with deep ties to the community’s history.

The old railroad depot, which dates back to the early 20th century, has long served as a symbol of Oneida’s rich heritage and its role in the development of the region. However, over the years, the building has faced challenges related to deterioration and disuse. With the support of the Tourism Enhancement Grant, the town plans to restore the depot, ensuring it remains a vital part of the community.

The rehabilitation project will focus on preserving the building’s historical integrity while making necessary updates to enhance its functionality. Planned improvements include structural repairs, interior renovations, and the addition of visitor-friendly amenities. The project aims not only to revitalize the depot but also to create a space that will house a railroad museum and host community events.

“This grant is a tremendous opportunity for Oneida,” said the Town Mayor Lori Phillips-Jones. “Revitalizing the railroad depot will not only honor our past but also attract more visitors to our city, boosting local tourism and supporting our economy.”

The rehabilitation of the depot aligns with Oneida’s broader goals of enhancing public spaces and promoting local heritage. By transforming the depot into a vibrant community hub, the town hopes to foster greater engagement among residents and visitors alike.

The Town of Oneida is grateful for the support from the Tennessee Department of Tourism and looks forward to the positive impact this project will bring to the community. With the rehabilitation of the old railroad depot, Oneida is taking a significant step toward preserving its history while paving the way for a brighter future.
