Free Fishing Day returns to City Park

ONEIDA  |  The Free Fishing Day contest is returning to Oneida City Park.

Once an annual event at City Park, it has been several years since the contest has been held. But it’s back for 2024, and kids ages 3 to 15 are invited to fish — for free — on Saturday, June 8.

Registration will begin at 8 a.m., and the first 200 kids who are registered will receive a backpack. Fishing begins at 9 a.m. and continues until 11 a.m. Prizes will be awarded in each age group at 11 a.m.

Fishing Day at Oneida City Park coincides with the State of Tennessee’s Free Fishing Day. The state’s Free Fishing Day is always the Saturday of the first full week of June — June 8 this year. On that day, anyone in Tennessee can fish without a license. For the week after — June 9 through 16 — kids ages 15 and under can fish without a license.
